No Heating or Hot Water?
The first thing I establish on a breakdown is what type of heating system and boiler you have. That matters because no heating or hot water doesn't automatically mean the boiler itself has failed.
Proper Fault Diagnosis
With a combination boiler, the fault will often lead us towards the boiler. On a system boiler, pressurised system or older gravity-fed system, other components can also cause the problem — including pumps, motorised valves and controls.
I start with the basics such as system pressure, electrical supply, gas supply and controls, then work through the appliance and heating system methodically to establish where the fault is.
I believe in diagnosing the fault properly — not simply changing parts until the boiler starts working.
