If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, treat it as an emergency. These simple steps can help keep you and your household safe while you contact the National Gas Emergency Service.

If you suspect an active gas escape, deal with the emergency first. Don't smoke or create a flame or spark, ventilate the property, turn the gas off at the meter if it is safe to do so, and follow the emergency service's instructions.
Call 0800 111 999Has Your Gas Supply Been Turned Off?
The National Gas Emergency Service engineer's first priority is to make the property safe. They will test for a gas escape and, where necessary, isolate or cap the gas supply so it cannot continue to be used.
Once the immediate danger has been made safe, their job may be complete. You can then need a Gas Safe registered engineer to locate the source of the escape, carry out the necessary repair and test the installation before the gas can safely be put back into service.
That's where S R Francis comes in. I can investigate the installation methodically, trace the source of the gas escape and establish what needs to be repaired.
